38 women from Truckee Meadows Quilters working on six different teams created an 8’x 6’ “art quilt” wall hanging depicting the start of the 1908 New York to Paris, Around the World Automobile Race. The art quilt will be on display at the National Automobile Museum, The Harrah Collection, at 10 S. Lake St, Reno.
The museum is celebrating the
100-year anniversary of the 1907 Thomas Flyer’s victory in the grueling race. The winning car is on display at the museum throughout 2008 in a special exhibit. Quilt will be raffled. Tickets: $5. Admission: $3-$9.

GENOA – Candy Dance and Craft Faire, Sep 27-28. More than 325 crafters and vendors, plus 4000 pounds of Genoa’s famous homemade candy are on display. Hours: 9am-5pm. Admission is free; parking in designated lots is available for a nominal fee. The first Candy Dance was organized in 1919 by Genoa resident Lillian Finnegan to raise money to purchase streetlights for Genoa. Finnegan and the women of Genoa made homemade candy to serve at the dance. In the following years, the candy-making and Candy Dance continued each year as a way to raise funds to pay Genoa’s electric bill for the street lights.
