Snow Geese & Trumpeter Swan Season, ongoing through Mar 31. See flocks of shorebirds and other migrating big birds that depend on Washington’s wealth of natural habitats. The La Conner Chamber of Commerce provides free bird maps of Western Skagit County.

Winter-into-Spring Performance Series, Feb 18, Mar 10 and Apr 14. La Conner Institute of Performing Arts presents Philharmonia Northwest, Pianist Yelena Balabanova and Skagit Emerging Artists concerts in separate performances this season at Maple Hall.

Valentine’s Day Celebration, Feb 1-14. The historic waterfront town of La Conner, voted Best Place to Kiss in the Pacific Northwest, is the perfect romantic hideaway: waterfront inns, cozy B&Bs, fine restaurants, boutiques, galleries and museums. Bring a kayak, rent a bicycle or walk the beach trail and wooded hilltop park.

Sound Rowers Open Water Race, Feb 4. This competition takes place on the Swinomish Channel and includes more than a dozen racing classes of all levels. Non-members are welcome. Time: 10 am.

La Conner Smelt Derby and Smelt Run, Feb 25. Fun events for the whole family include a 5K and 10K run; pancake breakfast and fishing for smelt on the public docks.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, Apr 1-30. La Conner is Tulip Central: home to the Tulip Frolic & Parade, Medic One Tulip Pedal, art shows, Victoria Clipper tours and Tulip Flightseeing Excursions from the Swinomish Channel.
