

Celebrate Winter and Spring in the Desert

In most parts of the country, as winter has set in, many folks have put away their hiking boots and pulled out their heavy coats. But in the desert southwest, the little town of Beatty Nevada along with Death Valley, offer a kinder and earlier spring.
When spring arrives here, Mother Nature puts on her best attire and bedazzles the world. In the blink of an eye the desert throws out blankets of gold interspersed with pockets of gems that warm the soul. The desert is in bloom. Just how spectacular that show will be each year depends on the amount of rain that falls in December and January. So, while most of the country is praying for a warm sunny day, the desert dwellers are hoping for more rain!
No matter how scarce the rainfall might be Mother Nature still puts on her show and it begins in the basin of Death Valley below sea level and as each month brings more warmth to the higher reaches the bloom creeps up the mountains
surrounding the valley.
From mid-February to mid-April, the bloom spills down the alluvial fans and onto the valley floor. During this time you are most likely to see the Desert Star, Desert Gold, Blazing Star, the Evening Primrose and Poppies and a host of other flowers and cacti...
