THE JEMEZ MOUNTAIN TRAIL

Situated about 50 miles from Albuquerque in North Central New Mexico, the Jemez (pronounced Hay’-mes) Mountain Trail awaits discovery. A loop trail along State Highways 4 and 501, the National and Scenic Byway passes through some of the state’s most beautiful country. An added bonus is the Trail’s richness in culture and history. The drive takes visitors past unusual geologic formations, ancient Indian ruins, an Indian pueblo, and through a national preserve. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in the form of hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The Jemez Mountains are also noted for their natural hot springs.

From Interstate 25 north of Albuquerque, take State Highway 550 west toward the Jemez Pueblo. The Jemez Mountain Trail begins at the junction of Highways 550 and 4, at a small town called San Ysidro.
