Freewheelin’ Through Colorado’s High Country

Colorado’s Rocky Mountain country certainly has a lot to offer. Sure, there are towering peaks rising majestically above grassy plains, but the Rocky Mountain State’s scenery and recreational opportunities do not end there. Colorado’s scenic beauty is just icing on the cake for a state that contains a rich history, an endless array of tourist locales, a teeming population of flora and fauna, and plenty of quirky, must-see spots. During a recent cross-country trip, we spent nearly a week in the southeast section of Colorado to see what this rich area had to offer.

At first glance, Walsenburg, Colorado may not seem the ideal spot for a week-long adventure. However, within an hour’s drive of Walsenburg lies some of the most scenic country in America, as well as a rich mixture of historic sites, recreational spots, and a number of national parks and monuments. There are RV parks in the area. From this spot, you can set out to explore some of southeastern Colorado’s most stunning highlights...
