RIDGWAY, COLORADO BALLOON RALLY
Spectacular Colors in the Colorado Sky
by Tena Owen

The view of the snow packed San Juan Mountain Range in Ridgway, Colorado is spectacular…even more so when you add the brilliance of balloons. Their seamless dance is a wonder to behold.

This is what I get to enjoy on Mother’s Day weekend as I am a crew member, along with my husband Harold, for the WWJD balloon piloted by Mark Irving of Big Horn Balloon Company out of Montrose, CO.

Ridway, nestled in the San Juans, has an annual Balloon Rally that is a fun-packed, three-day event starting on Friday morning with the launch of 10 to 15 balloons and a car show. You won’t want to sleep in though as the event starts early.

Half the fun is seeing how the balloons get up in the air. You might even see a dragon take flight. Weather permitting, there is a balloon glow at night. The sky glows as the balloons are illuminated by their burners.
You won’t want to miss the craft booths, concerts in the park, not to mention the good food and bakeries in town. My favorite place to eat is the John Wayne themed True Grit Café.
